In Collaboration with IBM, Itida Launches the Third Edition of African App Launchpad

Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) announced the launch of the third edition of the African Cup of Innovation for Digital Applications and Games AAL Cup 2021, in collaboration with IBM Worldwide, opening registration to start-ups and entrepreneurs until the end of October 2021.

The competition, organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and represented by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency, is being implemented through The Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, TIEC, under the Presidential Initiative "Africa for the Innovation of Digital Applications and Games. This initiative aims to build the capacity of 10 thousand young Egyptians and Africans and to support the creation of 100 emerging African companies in the areas of applications, games and digital development.

Eng./ Amr Mahfouz, ITIDA CEO, explained that the third and final edition of the competition follows the initiative's success so far in training over 10,000 young Africans and supporting over 75 African start-up companies from 22 African countries. He noted that the competition is divided into two tracks: application development and digital games development with a total financial prizes of $72,000 provided by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

The initiative launched by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, in November 2018 during the World Youth Forum event in Sharm el-Sheikh, stimulates creativity and entrepreneurship in order to create jobs and stimulate economic growth, as well as to promote rapprochement among African youth under the umbrella and auspices of the Egyptian State, as well as to find innovative solutions to the challenges facing the goals of growth, sustainability and prosperity of the African.

IBM, in collaboration with Itida, will train applicants from start-up by providing professional training in entrepreneurship and technology in data analysis and artificial intelligence. The company will also participate in selecting the best applicants, while offering the winners a range of different support and technical consulting services with access to its technology platforms and programs such as Start-up with IBM.

According to the schedule and rules of the competition, applications for the competition are open from 21 September to 31 October. 50 startups will be selected at the final stage to review their innovative ideas and business projects before a panel of arbitrators, and then the first three winners will be selected from each track.
